DBIA Challenges Next Generation of Practitioners with Best Practices in Design-Build Project Delivery
The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA), the only organization that defines, teaches and promotes best practices in design-build, has announced its third annual National Design-Build Student Competition with a Call for Student Teams. The National Design-Build Student Competition serves to challenge and inspire the next generation of practitioners through applying design-build best practices to successfully propose a delivery solution to design and construct a more than 120,000 square foot comprehensive recreation center on a college campus.
“Preserving the momentum of design-build depends on educating the next generation in Design-Build Done Right and why design-build is fast becoming the project delivery method of choice,” says Lisa Washington, CAE, Executive Director/CEO, DBIA. “Teaching DBIA best practices through a student competition not only challenges students to perform well within their various disciplines, but also promotes the critical design-build principles of team integration and the rigors of the pre-award process.”
Registration is now open for eligible student teams. The deadline to register is March 24, 2014. The Student Competition eligibility requires that teams include four students who are enrolled in a college-level construction, design or development curriculum. Three of the team members must be undergraduate students, with the option of one team member being a graduate student.
Like design-build project delivery, the Student Competition is a two-phase process. In the first phase, DBIA will release a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to the registered teams in late March. One winning team will be selected from eight competition Regions across the country to advance to the second phase. In the second phase, a Request for Proposal (RFP) will be released to each finalist teams. From this pool of finalists, the top teams will be invited to present their proposals before an expert panel on Oct. 7 during the 2014 Design-Build Conference & Expo in Dallas, Texas. The final winners will be announced and presented with their awards during the Oct. 8 morning keynote session.
