A recent Crain’s New York Business article detailed how New York construction firms and even New York governments have been turning to design-build more recently. With the goal of time and cost savings, state officials have turned to design-build for the new Tappan Zee Bridge as well as smaller projects like Western Gateway Bridge upstate.
The New York State legislature failed to renew design-build authority during their regular session this year, but since authority does not expire until the end of the year, it’s still possible it could be renewed in a lame-duck session after the election.
