Challenge Design-Build Project Delivery Addressed
The university’s primary objective in utilizing the design-build approach was to bring the best integrated design and construction experience to this project, which allowed UC Davis to achieve a number of far-reaching goals for programmatic needs, cost, schedule and design excellence.
Summary
Grounded in the legacy of UC Davis’ world-renowned art faculty, the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art is a hub for creative thinkers, makers and innovators. The museum’s light-filled, porous and flexible form integrates the indoors and outdoors, capturing the spirit of the California Central Valley. An overarching 50,000-square-foot “Grand Canopy” extends over both site and building, to create a welcoming public plaza and new symbol for the campus.
