The Pine Valley Fire Station is a 13,000-square-foot facility that replaced an existing 6,900-square-foot building. The two-story fire station includes three deep bays for parking fire apparatus and a half bay for an ambulance or battalion chief vehicle, associated support spaces, an administrative/training area, and living accommodations for up to fifteen personnel. The living spaces include a fitness room, kitchen, dining, day room, individual bunk rooms and restroom facilities, and administrative office space. This LEED Silver project implements low impact development standards and uses sustainable design principles, practices and performance. The architecture, engineering, landscaping and building systems are designed for efficiency and ease of maintenance, ensuring that all design and construction goals were met by completion.
A Well-Received Addition to the Community
The replacement of any operating public safety building provides challenges to the builder, the user and the community. This project was successful because of the close collaboration of the design-build team, the Owner and the community leadership. Completing the project on an aggressive timeline, while maintaining access to the balance of the site was achievable because of the teamwork found in the design build delivery method employed on the project. The design-build team worked closely with a variety of stakeholders to ensure all programming and project goals were attained and a quality of craftsmanship and durability was realized. Through careful planning and attention to detail, the Pine Valley Fire Station supported the Fire Authority’s needs, fit well within the context of the neighborhood and has been enthusiastically received by both the Fire Department and the Pine Valley community.
