DBIA is in Las Vegas this week for the 2019 Design-Build Conference & Expo, and it’s been a whirlwind from the beginning! Here’s a quick recap of what we’ve done so far, but here’s the thing: the week isn’t even CLOSE to over yet!

The week got rolling on Tuesday with several pre-conference events that hundreds of conference attendees came into town early to attend. Three different workshops provided several perspectives on design-build, including the ‘Best Value Design-Build Done Right®’ and ‘Progressive Design-Build Done Right.’  The third workshop of the way was also the first part of the revamped Educator Workshop; that part was a one-day workshop in Vegas ahead of the second half of the Educator Workshop, wherein the educators can attend the DBIA Certification Workshop of their choosing.

The pre-conference excitement continued to build at the Welcome Reception, sponsored by the DBIA Western Pacific Region.

Wednesday got off to a busy start with the Membership & Credential Holders Breakfast, a special members-only event that honors DBIA members and newly credentialed Designated Design-Build Professionals. DBIA is always excited for this event because it allows our members to see the highs and successes of what we’ve done this year. We were very pleased to update our members and are proud of what we’ve got to share!

Wednesday morning also included the Practitioners’ Forum and the Owners’ Forum, rare opportunities for design-build practitioners and owners alike to come together to talk openly about hot topics and key issues in the industry. Toss in the Student Mixer/Career Expo and we had a full morning in Caesar’s Palace before the conference had officially kicked off!

But it DID kick off in the afternoon with the Opening Keynote from former Travelocity CEO Terry Jones. Jones delivered plenty of eye-opening insights on how to foster innovation in organizations of all shapes and sizes, a great message that got the conference off to a super start!

We ended the first day at the famous Omnia Nightclub for our Opening Party – another night to remember for sure!
